Title: Forward self-similar solutions to the 2D Navier–Stokes equations
Abstract: In 2014, Jia and Sverak constructed self-similar solutions evolving from large scale-invariant initial data in 3D and conjectured their non-uniqueness through bifurcation. In 2D, Leray-Hopf solutions are unique, however loss of uniqueness can still happen in borderline critical spaces with infinite energy. We construct self-similar solutions to the 2D Navier–Stokes equations evolving from arbitrarily large −1–homogeneous initial data and present numerical evidence for their non-uniqueness.
